You Don't Have to be Ill....Although many people find that Shiatsu helps in combating a wide range of conditions once they start, an increasing number are discovering that it is also great as a regular ‘toning up' treatment. Many cultures around the world recognize the existence of an energetic body working in concert with the physical flesh and bones. Exercise regimes such as yoga, tai chi and many martial arts are based upon just such an idea. Shiatsu, like acupuncture, works primarily with the energetic body, enhancing and strengthening its ability to deal with everything life throws at you. The idea is that if your energy, or ki, is flowing well, you feel good and are in good general health. If, on the other hand, your ki becomes slow, stagnant or unbalanced, you start to become less well and prone to illness. We all depend on free and efficient flow of energy in our bodies to keep our vital functions in good order. Inefficient or blocked flow of energy can result in tiredness, physical pain, digestive disorders and any number of other symptoms depending on which of the body's systems is most badly affected. According to traditional Chinese medicine, free flow of energy is so fundamental to health that virtually any condition can be described in terms of an imbalance or impediment to its flow. Many people, even those already practicing tai chi, yoga, or similar find that receiving regular Shiatsu treatments does seem to help their overall feeling of well being. Although regular shiatsu can never be a complete substitute for self help, a Shiatsu practitioner can assist by clearing blockages and redressing imbalances within the body, resulting in a stronger energetic structure. |
